Ancient Roman Patricians

In Ancient Rome, the population was divided into two groups; patricians and

plebeians. The patricians were the descendants of most powerful families in all of Rome. They lived in mansions and had political power in the senate. The patricians would get married and only did business with people of the same class. Plebeians were mainly artisans or peasants who looked after the patricians’ land. They lived in cramped apartments and had no political say. If a plebeian was lucky, they could become a servant for a patrician family. For their work, they received protection from the patricians. Even below plebeians in the social structure of Rome were freed slaves and slaves. Freed slaves were slaves had either been given freedom or had paid for their freedom and now worked for themselves. Slaves were generally prisoners of war or abandoned children who were owned by their master. The social structure of Ancient Rome was one of the worst parts, as it was incredibly unfair and unsettling to think innocent people were slaves.

At the top of the social structure in Ancient Rome were the emperors. The

emperors of Ancient Rome had unlimited power, they were incredibly ambitious and willing to lead the Empire. They were the commander of the Roman army and the leader of the senate. They had full political power and no consequences for their actions. They were the supreme leaders of Rome and were required to meet hundreds of requirements before becoming the leader of the entire Roman Empire. They were the absolute most powerful person in the entirety of Rome. But, many emperors were not fit to be the leader, and were overthrown or voted out. The first emperor of Rome was Julius Caesar. They were the greatest and most respected person in Rome.
